Beginner Level. This crochet project takes about 2-3 hours to complete.
Supplies
Red heart brand yarn (4.0 weight)
Velvet Plus Bernat in color Cream
Size 5.0mm crochet hook
Size 9.0mm crochet hook
Scissors
Crochet Needle
Stitches Used
ch = chain (yarn over, pull through loop)
R = row
dc = yarn over, insert hook, yarn over, pull through, yarn over and pull through the first 2 loops, yarn over and pull through the last 2 loops on your hook
Treble crochet = yarn over 2 times, insert hook, yarn over, pull through, yarn over and pull through the first 2 loops, yarn over pull through the next 2 loops, yarn over and pull through the last 2 loops on your hook
Increase stitch = placing 2 dc in one stitch
st = stitch
Sl st = insert your hook, yarn over, and pull through the stitch and the loop on your hook
The waistband:
5mm hook & red heart super saver yarn*
Start here: Ch (the amount that goes around your waist) or the circumference of your hips.
Once you have your long chain, you can continue, keep in mind we are making a panel/long rectangle shape.
R1: Starting in the 3rd chain from the hook, place a dc, then continue to place a dc in each chain across, ch2 at the end and turn your work.
R2-R5: dc across (starting in the first stitch) ch2 at the end and turn your work.
I made 5 rows of dcs but if you want a thicker waistband then make more rows at this point before continuing.*
The Skirt
R6: Place 2dc in each stitch across (this is called increasing) ch2 at the end and turn your work.
this should double your stitch count, for example if you had 120dc in row 5 then you should have 240 dc at the end of row 6
R7-R14: Place a dc in each stitch, ch2 at the end and turn your work.
I made 8 rows total of dc after the increase row to get the length shown in the example photo. If you want a longer skirt, add more rows here before moving to the next step. Keep in mind that the fuzzy trim will add 2 inches to the skirt.
-Chain 1 and fasten off here-
The Trim:
switch to a 9mm hook and the velvet yarn here
R15: Attach yarn where you left off at the end of Row 14, ch3, place a treble crochet in the space between each dc across, ch1 at the end and fasten off.
BETWEEN the dcs from the previous row, NOT in the stitch hole, your 9mm hook won't fit there.
Sewing:
switch to a 5mm hook and red heart super saver yarn
Place both sides of the skirt together to create a seam down the side of the skirt. Attach your yarn at the connecting corners and sl st down the side of the skirt, ch1 and fasten off.
weave in any loose ends with your crochet needle*
